Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is the process of putting color, that is custom color matched to your hair, very shallow into the dermis to replicate a hair stubble. This process allows you to wear the hair shaved and not look bald. This process allows us to use SMP to fill in thinning areas, areas not completely void of hair. Putting the pigment between the hairs gives visual fullness. It generally lasts 2-8 years with touch ups. The pigment is not metallic tattoo ink. The pigment is not deposited at the bottom of the dermis into the hypodermis. Putting pigment deep into the dermis allowing the pigment to reach the hypodermis causes the pigment to spread instead of staying in a fine .07mm precision point. The pigment is specifically designed for the SMP process. We also use a specialty device for SMP to keep the pigment in a .07MM size—the size of a human hair.

The initial trichology evaluation is complimentary. Each additional evaluation does carry a fee. During your initial trichology evaluation, we gather information. We discuss hygiene habits, family history (in relation to hair loss), and daily habits like eating, exercise, sleep, hair product use, etc. Then, we painlessly test the scalp for sebum levels, hydration levels & the pH of the skin. We take 50x & 200x magnification pictures of the scalp under white light and blue light to look for high levels of bacteria, the condition of the scalp, and the state of the hair (healthy anagen, weakened catagen, or follicle void of hair). Is there visible swelling on the scalp? Is there visible redness? Psoriasis? Eczema? Scar tissue?

From all this, we then have a direction we need to take. We may suggest blood work, a scalp biopsy, or epigenetic and polarized light microscopy. We may recommend a treatment plan at this point. Is the scalp healthy but regrowth is not possible? We would recommend a hairpiece/prosthetic or a hair transplant if the client wants more hair to style. Suppose the client is not a good candidate for regrowth but does not want hair added to their existing hair with a hair piece/prosthetic or a transplant. In that case, we can offer scalp micropigmentation to put pigment very shallow into the dermis and color match it to the client's hair.

Hair loss prevention and regrowth treatment success depends on where in the journey the person started treatment. In other words, was the thinning caught early enough to reverse most of the damage or was the treatment delayed until only partial reversal was possible? Unfortunately, hair loss is aggressive and progressive and often put off until another day. By the time most people notice their skin showing from significant hair thinning or loss they have lost 50% of their hair. It is only realistic to think about possible regrowth conservatively at 20%.

Yes, if the burn is completely healed and is small we may do a small hair transplant to see if the hair will grow. If the damage to the tissue has left the area with thick deep scarring and lack of blood flow we may suggest a hair piece/prosthetic.

Yes, we have many options for medical treatments or nonmedical treatments. How large or small the area is and where the area is on the head most likely will help us determine a perfect solution for you. Sometimes a hairpiece/prosthetic is the best way to go if the area is large or has thick ropey scarring. If the area is small, most of the time a hair transplant is the permanent way to go. It may take a couple of hair transplants to build up the desired density but it would be your own growing permanent hair.

No, all participation you see in videos, photos, etc. is purely voluntary and is done out of pride of the solution each person chose. The participants are not paid or compensated in any way. You may be asked to join but are absolutely not obligated in any way.

Blood work will give you a look at the values of what is considered a normal range for vitamins, thyroid, hormones, minerals, etc. For healthy hair, however, the ranges are much more narrow. Our testing goes much further than blood work. We extract hair follicles to scan and compare 800 markers in your follicle with millions in the database. This information is then compiled in a 32-page detailed report of food intolerances, mineral deficiencies, vitamin deficiencies, imbalances in amino acids, antioxidant deficiencies, fatty acid deficiency, environmental challenges, resistance indicators & so much more. What we have learned is when the body is out of balance the extremities suffer and your hair is an extremity. We also do an additional test called polarized light microscopy. We extract a few hair follicles from the top of the head to look under polarized light in the microscope. We look for healthy anagen hairs, catagen hairs, and telogen hairs. We also look for malabsorption issues present in the slides, defects in the hair follicles themselves, and mass hair loss quantified by categorizing each hair and calculating loss. These results along with the epigenetic testing give us a deep understanding of sleep patterns, stress levels, any present abnormalities in growth cycles and why.

No. If your hairpiece/prosthetic gets violently ripped off the head traction, hair loss can occur in the injured area. If you are prone to trichotillomania, we ask that you don't forcefully shove anything like your finger under the hairpiece/prosthetic as this can injure your hair follicles and promote traction hair loss. If you have an allergic reaction to any new medication or cosmetic products you begin using, this can cause inflammation under the hair piece/prosthetic which can lead to traction hair loss.

Absolutely no cutting or shaving your hair under your hairpiece/prosthetic is necessary unless you desire it. It is true that shaving under a hair system is preferred by some due to comfort and a more natural fit. We offer a long hair bond that keeps every hair under the hairpiece/prosthetic.

With a semi-permanent attachment, such as bonding, you may continue with your normal daily activities such as showering and styling your hair. You may also continue to participate in any extracurricular high-impact activities, such as amusement parks, water sports, motorcycles, convertibles, etc.

No, getting fitted or molded for a custom system does not hurt. In fact, it is a painless procedure—but a very important one. We go to great lengths to make sure an exact replica of your scalp is taken to ensure the proper fit of your hair and scalp prosthetic. We take a fiberglass/resin fitting of the scalp to depict the coverage and shape of the thinning area. For our premium CNC by Cesare Ragazzi hair system, which is handmade in Italy, we then go a step further and take a 360-degree computer scan of millions of angles to .02% accuracy.

As part of its natural growth process, hair grows in 3 stages:

  1. ANAGEN - This is the growth cycle in which cells divide and elevate to the upper portion of the hair bulb, as dead cells.
  2. CATAGEN - During the catagen stage the hair is separated from its nutritional source and hair growth stops.
  3. TELOGEN - During this cycle (which ranges in time from one to four months), the hair either falls out or is forced out by new growth.

When the hair's natural growth process gets interrupted, that's when hair loss occurs.

Some of the important factors that make an individual a good candidate for surgical hair restoration include:

  1. The overall quality and abundance of existing hair - Since surgical hair restoration involves relocating hair follicles, the quality and amount of donor hair is paramount. Equally important is the texture, color and curl of donor hair.
