5 Home Remedies for Healthier Hair

There are many ways to improve the length, volume, and overall health of your hair—including everything from topical solutions to laser therapy. Of course, we offer many of these solutions here at Mane Image.

You don’t have to come to our studio to improve the health of your hair, though, and in fact you don’t have to leave your home at all. There are a number of home remedies that you can try in order to improve the quality of your hair health, starting with the five we’ve outlined here.

Apply Some Natural Fat

This may sound a little gross, but bear with us: Healthy fats can have a number of benefits to your hair, and they wash out easily—so there’s certainly nothing to lose here. Applying just a few drops of olive oil or coconut oil can smooth hair that’s become brittle or over-processed. Note that you can also apply a coat of oil to your hair before washing it, which can prevent against damage during the washing process. Just leave the oil in for half an hour or so before washing, and it will come right off.

Try Apple Cider Vinegar

Here’s a home remedy for dry hair: Mix a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar with two tablespoons of olive oil and three egg whites; make sure it’s all mixed thoroughly before you apply it to your hair. Use a shower cap to hold it in place, then let it set for half an hour before jumping in the shower and washing it all out. This may sound like an arduous process, but it really works for strengthening hair that’s become too limp and breakable.

Plug in a Humidifier

The environment in your home can either help or hurt your hair—and if the air is dry, that’s sure to hurt it. You can remedy the problem by plugging in a humidifier while you sleep. This can be especially helpful during the winter months, when there tends to be a little less moisture in the air.

Rinse with Green Tea

Sometimes the thing that’s compromising the health of your hair is the level of dirt and oil that’s built up within it. You can give your hair a good, deep cleanse by brewing some fresh green tea—nothing with artificial sugars or preservatives added—and then letting it cool off. Shampoo your hair like normal, then rinse it thoroughly with the tea.

Use Botanical Products

Finally, you can improve your hair’s shine and your scalp’s health by using botanical extracts such as almond oil and jojoba—both of which you can buy on their own or seek out as ingredients in shampoos and hair creams. Leave in for half an hour, rinse, and be on your way!
