Terrified of losing your hair?

REAL TALK with Kayla Martell about when to seek professional help.

Hi, I'm Kayla Martell, Miss Delaware 2010 and Miss America Finalist 2011. You wouldn't expect a beauty pageant winner to be bald, but that's my story. I lost my hair when I was 11 but that didn't stop me from pursuing my dream of being in the Miss America pageant.

As a little girl I went to pageants with my Mother and she would say "One day that will be you." I competed bald many times, and then a judge suggested I do something about my hair loss. I did and competed the next year . . . and still did not win. But the following year, I did! It's funny now; I never thought about needing hair to pin on the crown!

Come meet me and hear my personal story, along with other women just like you who have found solutions. I will be guest speaker at the Women's Hair Loss Seminar being hosted by Mane Image, Merrillville, IN, on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, 6:30pm - 8:30pm. Register at www.maneimagehair.com or call 219-736-7300 to RSVP or get more information.

When it comes to losing your hair, I've been there so I know what it feels like to wake up to find more hair on your pillow. And, to count the hairs in the shower drain. I would look in the mirror and stare at the balding spots. Many women recognize their parts getting wider. Or the top of your head being flatter.

When it's happening, you think you're going crazy! You think 'what have I done to create this situation?' But you are not overreacting. Close to 30 million women in the US have noticeable thinning hair or hair loss. So many reasons why. . .it may be a hormonal change, major stress, diet imbalance, medication or even a genetic predisposition. It's scary to not recognize the person looking at you in the mirror!

Modern Salon did a recent study and reports that although millions of women experience hair loss, only a surprising 12% seek help. That means 88% of you are suffering in silence. Reasons why most women are not doing anything about their hair loss is because they don't know where to go for help or what can be done. Neither their primary care doctors nor their hairstylists can offer much help.

There's been a tremendous amount of attention recently to Trichology, the science of the scalp and hair follicles. Advances have been made in this field along with FDA-approved products, and we're now seeing available treatments that can address your hairloss problems and often reverse the damages before you lose all your hair.

The most important thing is to cleanse your scalp and create a healthy environment for your hair to grow. Yet, so many products advertising to create beautiful hair actually clog the hair shaft and makes your situation worse. It takes a hair loss specialist to properly examine your scalp and hair follicles to determine what's happening and recommend the products that will work best in your situation.

So, when should you seek professional help? The honest answer is . . . .NOW! The fact is that in many cases, hair loss is preventable and even treatable. The good news is that a hair loss professional can examine your head with a microscopic camera to see any underlying issues and apply corrective measures which, hopefully, can stop your hair loss, generate regrowth and restore your crowning glory! But the clock is ticking because once the hair follicle dies, it's over. The longer you wait, the fewer options you will have.

I will be at Mane Image in Merrillville, IN on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, to share and delve deeper into the discussion of women’s hair loss. Please join me by attending a free, private seminar surrounded by other women who are experiencing the same problems. You are not alone and there are solutions! Make yourself a priority and you won't regret it.

See you soon!
